Do you ever spend time daydreaming about your perfect person? The one you will be with for the rest of your life. Your forever.
How their eyes sparkle in the light and when they look at you, you get butterflies, or a whole zoo that would rush through you. Or how when they would hold your hand and squeeze it a bit tighter you get tingles through your body, and when they kiss you, oh man, it would just be the best feeling in the world.
Do you meet them casually shopping for groceries one lazy Saturday afternoon or do you imagine them coming in on horseback with a dozen roses in hand like the movies?
It all seems great, right? Okay it’s all planned out, now its time to wait for that to happen…still waiting…just a bit more……
But still nothing happens, why? Because that’s not how love works. You cannot just plan your love life like it is in the movies; that’s just not possible.
It stinks doesn’t it? Having to wait around in hopes that the perfect man or woman will just knock on your door one day, you will fall madly in love and ride off into the sunset together spending eternity in blissful joy…just like the movies.
Well, if the movies make it look so easy then why isn’t it that easy? Why does society portray love to be this easy and fun thing that just happens, when clearly that little girl crying in the corner with her heart broken says otherwise. And even with the little girl telling you that love does hurts, you still go onto believe that love is easy to find and that you won’t be the one who hurt on the way…oh you poor foolish human…you’re just asking to get your heart ripped out and thrown in the mud.
So why can writers make love seem so easy when it is one of the scariest things in the world? Why can’t love be easy and harmless to find? Why can’t we just wake up one day and know who we are going to marry? Why must we suffer through countless heartbreaks just to have it happen again only in hopes that one day, maybe, you will find that person who will care for you forever? Why must we climb this mountain that feels like the air is to thin and without gravity, leaving us to float aimlessly in search for that perfect person.
Love is fun and exciting, but it can also be dangerous and scary
When the words ‘I love you’ are first said in a relationship it can go one of three common ways. The person can look at you and laugh like you were joking…yikes…or they can say that they don’t feel the same way, but hopefully they look at you with those beautifully kind eyes and say ‘I love you too.’
When you hear those words everything changes. If you have a bad day you know you have someone there to make you feel better, someone who you can tell all your secrets to, that one person who will make the pain from a thousand heartbreaks vanish with one smile.
When someone says they love you it feels like a big warm hug that lasts forever. Having someone say that they do love you can make the worst days seem just a bit more bearable. Knowing you have someone who cares so deeply about you can make it easier to get up in the morning because you want to talk to them and make it harder to say goodnight because all you want to do is be with them.
The road may be rocky at times and you may feel like giving up, but when you find that person no matter how hard times may get you know deep down that they are worth the fights at 3am, the tears or the miscommunication leaving you alone at their family reunion…being questioned about when the two of you are going to get married or giving you life lectures about random things like how to tame a raccoon, because when it comes down to it, they are the only one for you, they are the person who is worth fighting for because you want to be with them through all of the good times and all of the bad times. They are your everything and you are theirs.
When you do find that person who can make your heart skip a beat just by hearing their name then you know you have found your forever. The one you who will always have your back. The one who will challenge you and help you become a better version of yourself. The one who will always be there, through thick and thin. The one who will love you until the end of time.
So, who is your forever?
