Blog #9: Deeper Than the Ocean

Hello Readers!

This week started off with a nice surprise, one of my three hour glasses was canceled! During my break I was able to go for a run and play soccer two times since it was so nice out.

The next day, Tuesday, I made a store run with Isabelle and Sarah Kaye. Then later that night I had a chocolate cooking class which was a lot of fun! I got to make many different chocolates. (a flower shaped one with raspberry filling, mini eggs that were just plain chocolate and a giant egg that was filled with fudge, peanut butter and sprinkles) I was also able to make a swan out of an apple.

Thursday was a productive day as usual. I got up early and did laundry and homework so I could have a relaxing weekend. After lunch Sarah Kaye and I headed into Edinburgh to go to The People’s Story museum for our Family and Culture class.

– The museum was creepy if I am being honest. There were wax figures everywhere and motion activated sounds that would randomly go off and made me jump a lot. After we were done at the museum we headed back home to make it in time for dinner.

By the time dinner rolled around Isabelle’s family was here! It was a lot of fun to see them all. After dinner, I tagged along on a walk with Isabelle and her whole family. Since it was dusk we just walked down to the restoration yard for a quick walk. After our walk, we relaxed for a while and then got ready to go into the city.

– We (Amanda, Isabelle, Isabelle’s dad and brother, Amy, and I) started the night at The Beehive which was a nicer pub, but mostly everything was more expensive so after a bit we moved onto Three Sisters. We moved around the floors a bit, but then ultimately decided to stay on the ground floor.

Since it was the day before St. Patrick’s Day there was a countdown that they had on a screen which was neat. A bit after midnight we decided we were all pretty tired and wanted to grab some food and head home.

The next day was a busy day! We started the morning at Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery.

We began with a tour of their factory which was neat, however, the strong smells in each of the rooms was beginning to make me a wee bit nauseous by the time we were done. After seeing the process of making the whisky and seeing how it was stored we got to taste some of their products. We tasted the 12 year which was their original and then we also got to try their limited edition which was aged for double the amount of the original I believe.

– They were both good, however, the second one went down easier and didn’t have as much of a burn.

Once we were done with our tour we hoped back on the bus and headed to Tantallon Castle which was a ruined castle that was pretty. The view from the top was stunning.

After exploring Tantallon we headed to St. Abbs Head. Words cannot describe how beautiful St. Adds was. The view was breath taking both figuratively and literally because it was very windy when you walked out onto the cliffs.

The wind was so stong it was hard to stand still at points!

By the time we were done there it was starting to rain, so I was happy to get back on the bus.

When we got home I made some food and took a wee nap before deciding to go into the city again with Amanda to check out what they had going on for St. Patrick’s Day.

We started the night at Three Sister then went over to Movement, but neither of those places were what we wanted. I had been talking to Adam for most of the night so I asked where he was and we ended up walking to meet up with him and some others from the program.

We stayed with them for a while and then decided that we were ready to go home so Adam, Amanda and I all got some food and hoped on the bus home. Even though it was a relaxing night it was still fun to be out in the city.

Saturday & Sunday of this weekend were spent relaxing and doing homework which was much needed! This was an overall good week.

Talk to you all soon & and thank you for reading 🙂

The title:

This week’s title comes from something one of my host mums said to me today. We were in the car going to the car boot sale and I was daydreaming out the window and she asked if I was okay and I said yes just lost in my thoughts and she said to me “You are deeper than the ocean Jordan.”

I have never heard something that describes me so well. I am usually lost in my thoughts which is both good and bad. Sometimes I am not thinking about much, but other times I am thinking about stuff that I really shouldn’t be worrying about.

Something that I have learned on this program, thanks to a great friend, is that I shouldn’t worry about what others think about me. If I constantly worry about others opinions of me then I will never be able to be happy, and my happiness is what comes first in life because if I am not happy then I can’t make others as happy.
