Blog #6: Life Happens

Isaiah 43:2

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

If I am going to be competely honest this week started out really good and then took a turn for the worst until tonight.

As I mentioned in my last post I had just gotten back from Amsterdam at the beginning of the week so I didnt have of my Monday classes which was pretty nice considering that day I have class all day.

Tuesday I was so exhausted from a busy weekend, but non the less everyone got up early and made our way to University of Edinburgh for a TEDx confernce. The main topic of all of the speakers was Passion. All of the speakers were very good and the messages that they portrayed were very nice to hear.

One of the speakers that struck me the most was a women named Toluwa Oyeleye and her main point was that we should all follow our own path and be who we want to be. A quote that she said was “I wasn’t running my race at my own pace, I was running it on someone else’s pace.” What she meant by this was that we should stop focusing on what other people are doing or what they think about us and start living life for ourselves and just be happy with who we are because we are all unique and important in our own way.

I would really recommend listening to her talk. The link that I will attach is from last year, so its not the exact one I watched, however it is similar.

The next day I had my only two classes of the week and I was done by noon so Rebekah, Darius and I headed into Edinburgh to find some consignment shops. After wandering for a while we didn’t really find any good stores so we headed to the bus stop. We still had some time before the next bus so we went into a store called the Chessemonger and were talking with the worker for a bit and he told us where all the stores were. When we were looking for them we turned when we should have gone stright, but for next time we know now where they are. After talking for a bit the bus came and we headed back to the house for dinner and a movie night.

Thursday is always my “I have to be productive” day so I got up early and did laundry and did lots of homework which felt really good. Later in the day my Interculteral Communications class went to see the play Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare which was amazing. I love live theatre in general, but this performance was amazing.

Friday was another long day. We spent the whole day in Glasgow, which is the biggest city in Scotland. The first stop on our list was the Celtic Football stadium, and it was amazing! Since I am a big fan of football (soccer) it was really a dream come true, but even for people who aren’t that big of fans of the game it was still really fascinating. We got to see the press room, trophy room, locker room where all the jersey’s were hung up, and we got to walk out of the tunnel to the field. It really was a once in a life time experience. Once we were done there we got back on the bus and headed to a few museums which were pretty. When we were done with one of the museum we still had some time before we were heading home so a few of us went to the park which was really fun!

Saturday & Sunday were both relaxing days that were much needed. Saturday I spent most of the time room hopping working on photos and watching banned commercials. Sunday was also a realxing day. I got up early to go to the car boot sale with my host mums, which is essentially a flee market where people sell stuff out of their trunks in a parking garage. As sketchy as that sounds it was really fun and there were all sorts of unique items! By the time we got back I was pretty tired so I relaxed in bed until it was dinner time. Sarak Kaye, Isabelle and I made pasta and garlic toast that was really yummy. After dinner I was having a rough time so I ended up having a long talk with a really good friend that made my feel better.

Sara’s mom sent Kraft mac & cheese!

Now it’s time to catch some z’s and prepare for the week!

Talk to you soon 🙂
