Blog 4: Birthday Shenanigans

Hello Readers!

This week started out like any other with a full day of classes on Monday. However, Tuesday (Feb 7th) was a very special day. It was Isabelle’s 20th Birthday! Since I dont have classes on Tuesdays and she only has an afternoon class we got up early and went for a hike up Arthur’s Seat before the sunrise. It was a rainy day so we didnt really get to see much of a sunrise, but it was still an amazing time and the city is beautiful from up above.

After we got back we were both pretty tired so we hung out and relaxed until it was dinner time. After dinner our roommates celebrated Isabelle’s birthday with a minion cake! It was very cute and yummy.

Wendesday I had classes in the morning and then one of my classes went into Edinburgh for a field trip. We learned of some of the history of the city, how it used to look and how it became what it is now. We walked around the town a bit and then we walked up Calton Hill which was another beautiful outlook over the city!

Thurday was an impulse day! Right away in the morning I did lots of cleaning and homework, then when Isabelle, Sarah Kaye, and Sara  were all done with classes we headed into the city to get our ears pierced (sorry mom). Isabelle and I got matching tragus piercings, Sara got her double lobes and Sarah Kaye got a dermal on one of her tattoos. The place we went (Tribal Body Art) was amazing. Everyone there was very informative of the topics and they were also very nice! After we got our piercings we headed back to the house and got food since we missed dinner. Later that night we ended up watching Happy Potter and the Goblet of Fire with Connor and Reid which was a fun way to end the night.

Friday was a very long day! We started the day by heading to St. Andrews in the morning. When we got there we first saw ruins of a castle that used to be there. It was all fun until it started to snow! But before it got too bad I got a couple shots of the castle and made friends with a very photogenic bird. P1010032.JPG

After exploring there for a bit we headed over to the cathedral and wandered there for a while.

We got to go to the top of the tower. The view was breathtaking!

Once we got what seemed like a million photos we headed back down the 160ish step spiral staircase! After we reached the bottum Reid, Derek, Connor and I went to find some food because we were starving! We ended up eating at a place called Burger which had very good food for a lower price, which is always nice when you aren’t working for a semester. Once our bellies were full we wandered around for a bit more. The boys wanted to go out on the pier, but I didnt feel like getting drenched so I went on the a little island next to it where I took some photo of the snow on the sand and watched some people learning to surf!

Once the boys were done on the pier they came over to meet me and we kept walking until we found a park, so natually we had to stop and play for a bit!

After being there for a bit we wandered some more until we went back to the bus and headed to the Kelpies, which were big horse head sculptures! Once we were done there we headed home for the night. By the time we got back we were all exhaused so Brittany, Sara and I watched Me Before You, before we called it a night.

The next was was a very nice lazy morning/after noon of editing photos and sleeping in! The extra sleep was much needed. I spent the morning relaxing around the room and then went upstairs to Connor and  Adams room to show each other the photos we had taken the day before. After editing for a while I was talking with Adam, Reid and Connor and decided that we were going to go into the city for some dinner and have a night in the city. I asked Brittany and Isabelle to come along too, so we went and got ready and headed into Edinbugh! We started at Barburrito for some dinner, then went to Three Sisters bar for some fun dancing and eventually ended up at a new club called Espionage. After spending some time at those places we headed home. We had about a 20 min wait for the bus so we stoped in a restaurant to get some shakes, but they were out of them for two weeks so that was really sad, but over all it was a great night filled with great friends and many new memories!

Sunday was a relatively relaxing day which was a nice way to end the weekend. In the morning Isabelle and I went to church at St. David’s in Dalkeith. After that we went to Morrison’s for some breakfast with some of the other kids from the program! Since we were up so late the night before we went back to the house and relaxed for a good part of the day which was nice to have been able to catch up on some things. Later on in the night Brittany and I went to subway to get some dinner and watched some TV for a bit until Connor, Reid, Isabelle and Adam came in and we all ended up watching a documentary we had to for class. Once that was done we watched Guardians of the Galaxy, which was an amazing movie!

After that was done we all parted ways and headed to our own rooms.

At the end of each week I like to refect on my time here, and so far I couldnt be happier. Dont get me wrong there has been plenty of not so great times, but all of the good times heavily outweigh the bad. I am loving every moment I spend here and I cant wait to keep making memories!

Talk to you soon 🙂
